Nembutal, scientifically known as Pentobarbital, is a short-acting barbiturate that is often used for medical and veterinary purposes. Despite its therapeutic uses, it has also sparked controversy due to its misuse in assisted suicides and capital punishment.
In the medical field, Nembutal is primarily used as a sedative, hypnotic for short term treatment of insomnia, and as an emergency treatment for seizures. It’s also preoperatively used to alleviate anxiety. Due to its ability to induce a deep sleep, it was once widely used in psychiatric treatments. However, the rise of safer, more effective drugs has led to a decrease in its use.
